Abstract Objective To translate the Health Literacy-sensitive Communication (HL-COM) questionnaire into Chinese and validateits reliabilityand validity amonghospitalized patients.MethodsTheEnglish versionof the HL一 COM questionnaire was translated,culturally adapted,and pilot tested to finalize the Chinese version.Aconvenience sampling method wasused to select 338 hospitalized patientsfrom threetertiary hospitals in Tianjin forreliability and validity testing.ResultsThe Chinese version of the HL一COM questionnairecomprises 9 items.Itcandiferentiate between high and low-scoring groups ( P<0 . 0 1 ),with correlation coefficients between individual item scores and the total questionnaire score ranging from O.837 to 0.894( P<0 . 0 1 ). The Cronbach's α coefficient of the questionnaire was 0.954,and the test一retestreliability was O.879.Theitem—level content validityindexranged from O.852 to1.000, and the scsle—level content validity index was O.965.Exploratory factor analysis extracted one common factor,with a cumulative variance contribution rate of 7 7 . 8 6 8 % . Confirmatory factor analysis showed good fit for the revised model. ConclusionThe Chinese version of the HL-COM questionnaire demonstrates good reliabilityand validity and can be used to assess medical staffs health literacy-sensitive communication skils from the patients perspective.
