Design and Drilling Simulation of Open-Hole Penetration PDC Bit

Abstract:Penetration bit is a key tol for dredging the welbore during the re-entryoperation of old wels. The welbore is often lost due to frequent sidetracking of new holes during the open-hole penetration process in old wells.To solve this problem,an open-hole penetration PDC bit was developed.The bit was designed with a convex inner cone crown,four-blade double-row hybrid cuter layout and deep flow channel.Based on the force balance optimization model of cuter structure of PDC bit,the force and torque on the bit during driling were analyzed,and unbalanced force analysis was conducted on the designed penetration PDC bit.Finally,a drill string, bit and rock fully coupled dynamic model was built to simulateand compare the drilling trajectories of penetration bitand traditional bit.Theresults show thatthe proportion of unbalanced force on thepenetrationPDC bit is below 6.29% ,and the stability of the bit is not weakened bythe convex inner cone crown.In both cases with and withoutbend screw,the steering capabilityof the penetration PDC bit is superior to thatof the traditional bit.With strong hole finding ability,and safe and reliable operation,the penetration PDC bit meets the needs of re-entry operation of old wels.The studyresults provide a feasible drilling tool for there-entryoperationofold wells for constructing underground gas storages.
