Abstract：Chromiumisaheavymetal widelyused inindustriessuchasleathertanning，electroplating，metalurgy，and textiles.The discharge of hexavalent chromium during production and usage poses a serious threat to the environment and human health.In this study，recycled paper shell fibers and FeCl3 are used as raw materials to prepare a paper fiber/zero-valent iron composite aerogel （CA/ZVI）via a liquid-phase reduction method for the removal of Cr（‰ from water.SEM，XRD，TG，BET，XPSandotheranalyticaltechniquesareused toharacterizethemorphology，structureand element composition of CA/ZVI.Theeffectsof initial solution pH and the amount of adsorbent on Cr （VI）removal are investigated，andtheadsorptionperformanceofCA/ZVIaerogelisstudied.Theresultsshowthattheaerogelhasanetwork porous structure，with a pore size of 0.1-0.3mm ，aspecific surface area of ，and zero valent iron particles uniformly distribute on the surface of the aerogel.In the optimal conditions，the removal rateof byaerogelcanreach 96.4% .The removal process is primarily dominated by the adsorption of Cr（M） ，while a portion of Cr（M） is reduced to Cr（I） ，which means that CA/ZVI can reduce toxicity of Cr（M） while removing it.
