Summary of the best evidence for self-management of oral health in adolescent orthodontic patients

Abstract Objective：To retrieve，evaluate and summarize the relevant evidence of oral health self-management in adolescent orthodontic patients，so as to provide evidence-based basis for medical workers to carry out self-management health education and standardize patients′ self-management behavior.Methods："6S" model was used to systematically retrieved the literature on oral health self-management in adolescent orthodontic patients at home and abroad，including guidelines，clinical decisions，expert consensus，evidence summary and systematic reviews，which retrieved from UpToDate，JBI，BMJ Best Practice，DynaMed，the Cochrane Library，WHO，NICE，SIGN，GIN，RNAO，PubMed，CNKI，WanFang Database，Yimaitong，Metstr.The retrieval time was from the inception to May 31，2023.The quality of the included literature was independently evaluated by two researchers，and the evidence was extracted，summarized and integrated.Results：A total of 9 articles were included，including 2 guidelines，6 systematic reviews and 1 expert consensus.A total of 32 best evidences were summarized，including 7 aspects，such as oral cleaning，plaque management，diet management，psychological guidance，follow-up management，health guidance and multidisciplinary team cooperation.Conclusion：The current evidence summarizes the best evidence of oral health self-management in adolescent orthodontic patients，which can provide a theoretical basis for medical workers in clinical practice，and guide the oral health self-management behavior of adolescent orthodontic patients.
