Effect of intravenous iron supplementation in the treatment of heart failure with iron deficiency：a Meta-analysis

Abstract Objective：To systematically review the effect of intravenous iron supplementation in treating heart failure with iron deficiency.Methods：Randomized controlled trials （RCTs） of intravenous iron supplementation in the treatment of heart failure were retrieved from PubMed，the Cochrane Library，EMbase，and Web of Science databases.The retrieval time was from the establishment of the database to September 1，2022. RevMan 5.3 was used for Meta-analysis.Results：A total of 9 RCTs were finally included，with a total sample size of 2 301 patients. Meta-analysis results showed that compared with the control group，the hospitalization rate of heart failure patients in the intravenous iron group decreased （OR=0.63，95%CI 0.50-0.81，P=0.000 2），and the 6-min walking distance increased （MD=43.80，95%CI 34.30-53.40，P<0.000 01），left ventricular ejection fraction increased （MD=4.40，95%CI 1.80-7.10，P=0.001），Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire （KCCQ） score increased （MD=6.20，95%CI 3.50-8.90，P<0.000 1），and the differences were statistically significant.Conclusion：The current evidence shows that intravenous iron supplementation could help reduce the hospitalization rate in patients with heart failure complicated with iron deficiency，improve the 6-min walking distance，left ventricular ejection fraction and KCCQ score.
