Comparison Between Grafted Eggplant and Self-Rooted Eggplant Planted in Clay Soil

Abstract:Comparativecultivationtrialswerecarredoutforgraftedeggplant (withSolamumtorvumasthestockand'Heiyuanba (204號 asthe scion)andself-rootedeggplant inclaysoilareas insouthe Hunan.Thegrowthanddevelopment,fruit appearancequality rotraits,yieldanddiseasersistancewereompared.Tesultsshowedtatgfedeggplanthadtrongergowthotealthan self-rooted eggplantatthe middleand late stagesof development.The plant heightand crown diameterof grafted eggplant were significantlyhigher tantoseofself-roted egplantatthepeak fruitingstageandendharvesting stage.Gafted eggplantandselfrootedegplantshowedthesamefruitshape,fruit skincolor,andfeshcolor.Thefruitsperplantofgraftedegplantwere more than thoseofself-rotedegplantobviously.Thehigh-yieldingstageofgraftedeggplantconcentratedatthemiddleandlatestage.The rootsofgraftedeggplant wereasiertogowinclaysoil,witheumber,verticaldepthndtrasversediameterofteralroots andthetransversediameterofcapilaryrotssignificantlyigherthanthoseofself-rootedeggplant.Inconclusio,graftedeggplant outperformedotdgpntinntgowthotetialfruitppeaanealitytotalyielddotdaptabiltAcodglyt is worthwhile to popularize the planting of grafted eggplant in clay soil in southern Hunan.
