Is there someone in your life who isalways happy? Or maybe someone who bringsyou a lot of joy? If so, here are some expressionsyou can use to describe them.
A person who doesn’t worry aboutthings going wrong and lives their life in arelaxed and happy way can be described as“happy-go-lucky”. The expression was firstused in print in 1672, but back then it meant“whatever is going to happen will happen”.
Some people call their baby a“bundle1of joy”. The expression probably comes fromthe practice of putting babies in blankets2,which makes them look like a bundle.
If someone is very happy, you can saythey are “as happy as Larry”. Some say itrefers to Larry Foley, an Australian boxerfrom the late 19th century who never lost afight. Others say it refers to the word“l(fā)arrie”which meant “joke”, or to“l(fā)arrikins”—young men that caused trouble in Australianand New Zealand cities. So if you came homefrom school smiling, your mother could havesaid,“You look as happy as Larry! ”
